When is a go time to plant papaya trees
Yes papaya can grow in a large container. In your plant hardiness Zone 10a they should do well but you will need to protect it from frost as you would with citrus.
The best timing would be to start seeds in mid to late February in a protected location, and plant outside in the pots when all danger of frost is past, should be by mid March.
If you start now, seed germination and growth will be slow and the young plants will need protection from frost through the winter.
How long does a papaya plant live?
Typically they are replaced after about 5 years, but you can get a little more life out of them than that with proper care. Here is an article that will help: https://www.gardeningknowhow.com/edible/fruits/papaya/growing-papaya-fruit.htm

Aloha, I have several Papaya (Not Pawpaws) trees that have developed lower limbs off the mail trunk. Should I lop them off or just leave them be? I live on Kauai. Mahalo, Rick
This does not seem to be any kind of stress growth. Just lower growth that was allowed to flourish. It will not hurt the tree to leave them, or take them off. Either way you choose will be up to you. This appears to be a very healthy specimen. This article will give you more information on the care of these trees: https://www.gardeningknowhow.com/edible/fruits/papaya/growing-papaya-fruit.htm
The tree was healthy till last week
Let the soil dry out at least an inch or so before you water it thoroughly.Your tree may also need some nitrogen. Here's an article that outlines the best growing conditions: https://www.gardeningknowhow.com/edible/fruits/papaya/growing-papaya-fruit.htm
This substance causing leaves to turn dark and fall off. Milky substance also getting on the fruit. What is this substance? Please Substance is in the veins of the leaves and on the fruit. The weather here has been real high heat and high humidity.
Without photos, I will have to take a guess. I would have to say that if it is spreading, and killing off vegetation, then you may be faced with Downy Mildew.
