Houston Texas: Planted Dec 8 2022. Cold snap hit Dec 22, 23, 24. Wrapped trunk, sheet over top and mulch over bottom. Uncovered tree Dec 27. Leaves started falling Jan 2.
There was some damage, so leaves are dropping. It sounds like you protected it well, so the leaves should grow back. The concerning point is that it wasn't in the ground very long and didn't have much time to get established before the snap.

Hi there, this tree was in my garden when I bought the house 3 years ago. It was in good health, but when I gave it a good trim last year, it never really came back. I’m pretty sure it’s an olive tree, but not certain! Possible issues: I removed a large branch which was growing in front of the path- the cut has gone black. There was a storm last year and the tree is now at a very slight angle - possible root damage? I’ve fed it tomato feed every 2 weeks for the past couple of months, but have noticed no difference. The leaves on top are dry and brittle. There’s some green moss/algae on the small branches. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks so much
You are very welcome! This information will apply in either circumstance. Container care would be a little more difficult, and would require more intensive care, but infections can be present in either case.
It is hard to say from that photo alone. From your description, though, it has went through a lot of stress. It seems that you are on the right track with diagnosis.
Olives don't really require much care. Pruning should only be done to correct shape, but you really want to cut out the entire branch. I suspect infection to the tree. This may be from the pruning if the shears have been in contact with other trees that carried the disease. There is a good chance that it didn't start until after the storm. Root damage will leave the tree vulnerable to disease.
I would treat with a fungicide, then give it near perfect care. Just keep in mind that it is a possibility that the tree may be lost.

oh sorry, I posted 3 other photos but they didn't upload for some reason! I'll try to do that now, but your answer is really helpful, thank you. I should also have said that the tree is planted in the ground, not a container.
