Lawn has areas that the grass is turning yellow and looks like straw.
Did your grass go dormant in summer heat? If so, it will rebound when weather cools. In my region, we had drought as well as unusual heat. If you didn't water the lawn and had similar conditions, there may be dead patches. I suggest that you rake the straw areas using some real oomph. Lightly fertilize - about half the usual rate with no weed killer - and water it in well. In a week, you'll know if you have dead patches that need seeding in about a month. You can try to spread seed now but you'll need to water at least twice daily in summer heat. After germination, water 1/2" twice weekly when rain is insufficient. Use "water smart" seed that is encased in a moisture-holding compound. Apply fall weed and feed formula only if enough time has lapsed since seed germination or you may kill the newly emerged grass. So read all instructions carefully. If you don't think heat or drought are your problems, please send a photo. You may have disease or grubs, moles or voles.

the first week, month etc? thank you
This really depends on how the weather is acting. There is no set schedule, unless you know how often lawns need to normally be watered in your area. On hot dry days, you may have to water twice per day, where as cooler days may only need water every 2 or 3 days or so.
It will be very clear when it is established, in which case you will only water once a day during hot or dry times, and once or twice per week when it is mild. You won't water at all when there is rain.

YARD IS HEAVILY DAMAGED FROM WEED/FEED APPLICATIONS DURING SUMMER MONTHS. MANY BARE SPOTS AND VERY LITTLE RAIN IN LAST MONTH. RESEEDING WILL BE WITH FESCUE GRASS SEEDS BECAUSE OF SHADE OVER YARD
It can be a good application for this, actually. Having a low nutrient content, and often many beneficial fungus present, this can work just fine.
Scarified lawn & about to put seed at 35g. Per m. Is it ok. To add lawn sand on top.
If no application rates are on the packaging; Apply at 135gms per square metre, either by hand or with a spreader.
Leave the Lawn Sand to work for a day without watering. If it does not rain within the next couple of days water in thoroughly to make sure the Lawn Sand is taken down into the grass. Avoid walking on the lawn until it has rained or been watered in. Wait 3 days after application before mowing the lawn.

I would like to know your opinion of overseeding grass seed during the winter months. I live in Cincinnati, Ohio. 45218. If you are positive on this thought process, can you suggest a seed type and schedule. Like once a month, time it right before a snowfall or a significant freeze/thaw etc
Dormant seeding is the common term for over seeding lawns in late fall to early spring while soil temperatures are too cold for grass seed to germinate. In the mid-west that's usually mid-November thru March when soil temperatures are below 50 degrees. Harsh winter weather will not harm dormant grass seeds.
If you missed the fall over seeding window, dormant seeding helps to eliminate bare spots and thickens turf to fight spring weeds.
I would recommend talking with your County Extension Office for a seed recommendation for your region and growing zone.
This link will help you locate the office nearest you.

You can also talk with a local garden center or nursery to check what grass seed they have available for dormant seeding.
It is too late to reseed now! Thank you!
This is a germination blanket, or also sometimes called a lawn net.
When to seed is mostly determined by the type of grass that you intend to plant. Cool season grasses are planted in Autumn, and warm season grasses are planted in Spring.

I have a major weed issue with both my front and back yard. I have dandelions, clover, weeds, and now fox tails growing. My grass has been a breeding ground for weeds it seems like and it comes from the previous owners not tending to the lawn. Also, my next door neighbor does not care for his lawn either so I get what ever his grass grows. I’m thinking about taking a roller to rip out our grass as it doesn’t grow very well and it just doesn’t look good. I want take out the old grass and plant new seed. The thing I’m worried about is the weeds coming back. What should I do?
Spring is a great time to seed grass, make lawn repairs and treat weeds.
