This tree/shrub is about 6 ft. tall. Much dead wood inside. Relative thin growth. Is in a confined space. Can I prune the tips back?
You have a few different options. You can rejuvenate your Carolina Silverbell by cutting the trunk to the ground. New shoots will be sent up by the roots which are capable of achieving several feet of growth the first season. (you can read more here: https://bit.ly/1Io78y6)
Or, you can go more conservative and remove up to one-fourth of the oldest branches to try and encourage new growth and bloom the next year.
