Are they in the same family of plants, or what is the difference?
There are differences with the two fruits. Raspberries, when picked, will have a "rasp", or hollow center at the top where it came off the stem. Blackberries do not have this. They are clean and flat along the top, not hollow. Raspberries are more oblong in shape whereas blackberries are more round. Also, raspberry canes are shorter than those of blackberries and will be paler green and fuzzy, rather than thorny like blackberries.
After my blackberry bush began to yield fruits, they shriveled and died. Also, why are my blueberries shrivelling and dying?
i don't know your area, but i'm from western PA and i know that too much water, too little water, too much sun and or heat are huge culprits. They tend to grow well along woods where they have sheltered sunlight, but not too hot. Do you have different berries (rasberries in particular) or a black walnut tree close? These things don't mix real well with blackberries. This has been my experience and i've grown berries my whole life. Also pruning them down will be a benefit. I hope this helps
Last year was the first year and they were loaded. The vines look healthy but they didn't even bloom. None of what is already on the site seems to fit my problem. Do they only produce every other year? Thanks!
They can have an off year, but it could also be that they were pruned incorrectly, which removes the fruiting wood, or they may have contracted a virus that rendered them sterile. This article may be helpful:

I have six year old established blackberry bushes that are becoming overgrown with various weeds. What type of weed control can be used that will not harm bushes?
If you are looking for a chemical solution, a broad leaf specific herbicide combined with a grass specific herbicide will take care of most weeds but will not hurt the blackberries.
For a more organic solution, a thick layer of mulch laid down (at least 3") will help suppress most weeds in the patch.
There are maggots in the blackberries. Are they still edible?
If they are truly maggots, I would avoid eating them as they tend to be small and plentiful, which means they are hard to get rid of. If it is just a few caterpillars, soaking the berries in a bowl of water for a 1/2 hour or so will cause the caterpillars to rise to the top.
I had a beautiful bush full of blackberries this summer; however, they were not sweet at all--although I planted a fruit fertilizer spike near the bush. How can I make them sweeter?
My guess would be that you may simply be picking them too early. Most people tend to pick blackberries when they are a nice glossy, dark color when in fact you should wait for them to dull in color before harvesting.
Just planted blackberry bushes earlier this summer. When is the first time I need to prune them? They bore only minimal berries this year but are looking very healthy and have grown an enormous amount. What is my next recommended process, please?

If you have a lot of new growth, prune out the weak canes. You will also want to prune out last years growth. In the spring, use a balanced organic fertilizer.
