We planted an avocado in a large container. The avocado is about 3 feet now. Can you please tell me when is the right time to plant it in our patio, and where is the best to plant it? Thanks
You can move your plant outdoors at any time, but make sure you slowly adjust it to the outdoor sunlight and weather conditions.
Avocado are only hardy in zones 10-11, so you will need to more your plant back indoors for the winter.

I have a 5 foot tall plant that has been planted outside for two years. We now need to relocate the plant and are wondering when is the best time of year to do that? Will there be a problem if I relocate it in a mild July? It was grown from seed and given to me by a friend so I don't know the variety. We are located in Northern CA in the Santa Cruz mountains. We typically get a ton of rain in the winter and warm Summers. It's planted on a slight slope and is thriving.
Avocado transplantation should be completed sometime in the spring or early summer when the ground is warm, but before the season is hot. Newly planted trees have a difficult time taking in water and are susceptible to sun damage.

I read your article on cold resistant avacado trees written by Amy Grant. I found it interesting and am wondering how do I obtain one of these Mexican varieties Amy mentioned in her article that can withstand colder temperatures?
Use your favorite search engine to do a search for the plants.
Also Ebay is a good source of plants that may be more difficult to locate.
We planted several avo trees grown from pits over the last 8 years. The one tree we planted approximately 6 years ago. However for the past 3 years it started blooming and making small fruit but the tree looses these small fruit very quickly. It is the only tree that does this.
This article will help you pinpoint the issue.

I live in central Calif. What maintenance should I be providing my 5 ft avacado tree in August?
This University of California website has tons of information on caring for avocado:

My avocado tree grown from seed finally produced fruit for a few years. Grafting didn't work, but I had bought a little seedling, put next to it, which helped it grow fruit. That little seedling has died. My avocado treat hasn't produced fruit in awhile. Does it need a new seedling? I thought once it grew fruit, it would continue to do so.
If your tree is producing flowers but no fruit, this might be a pollination issue. See this article for advice:

If there are no flowers at all, it might be that your tree doesn't have enough nutrients or other resources. Here is more information:
