We recently found this tree growing in our bushes. We would like to save it but we don't exactly know what it is. We think it might be an Ash tree. How do we care for it?

Its aprox 2" deep and 4" wide
I'm not sure that I understand the question, completely. If you mean that the root was exposed above ground, and got filleted by something such as a lawnmower- There is not action to be taken. The root will heal. Sealing it with anything will invite infection, whereas letting the root callous on its own will allow it to heal properly.
I bought this Evergreen Ash tree and asked for no messy trees. The one in the backyard is a male tree and beautiful. The one in the front is getting bunches of seed pods. I didn’t ask for a Evergreen Ash. I asked for a trees that are not messy. I was surprised what happened to the tree in the front yard.
It is a medium water usage tree so apply water regularly if rainfall is not sufficient. Fertilize the tree once in spring each year.

It has full sun and irrigation. Planted 2 years ago.
With trees, I don't recommend irrigation once they are established. Too much water will cause soil infections to establish in the soil, since lack of oxygen will allow them to do so.
Fungicides may be necessary:

These generally indicate a tree is dying inside and can become a danger if it falls over. To be certain, you may want to have an arborist examine the tree. It it is a bracket fungus, he or she will likely recommend removing the tree.
