Yucca Plants

I have two Yuccas about 5-6 ft. high potted and positioned in my pub’s foyer, which is open to the outdoors with the outer door usually open. The problem is that although they both have many leaves, these are suddenly beginning to go brown and dying. How often should these be watered/fed and how much?

Several things could cause this. It may need a larger pot, but if you do not want to move up to a larger pot, you can try root pruning. Here is information on that: https://www.gardeningknowhow.com/houseplants/hpgen/prune-roots.htm [1] Humidity may also be an issue. You can try experimenting with raising the humidity. It is possible that the plant has root rot too. This article will help you determine if it is root rot: https://www.gardeningknowhow.com/plant-problems/disease/treating-root-rot-gardening-tips-for-housplants.htm [2] Only water the plant when the soil is dry to the touch and just enough to get the soil good and moist. In the meantime, you can remove any brown leaves. Fertilizing might help, but typically yuccas don’t need a lot of fertilizer. A balanced fertilizer will work fine. Fertilize it about 1 time every 3-4 months.
