Wisteria Vine Care

Four years ago when I moved into this home, there was a medium-sized wisteria vine that had been trained and woven through the trellis. Because of my own stupidity, I have paid no attention to this and now the vine has stems that are so heavy the have knocked the trellis over and are all leaning over on the ‘sunshine’ side. Should I just prune out all the big branches and leave the smaller ones to try to weave through the repaired trellis? Or is it better to prune it back completely and start all over again? It is producing the most beautiful blossoms I have ever seen – light lavender with a smell that I find nowhere else in the yard.

Either solution will work just as well as the other. Once a wisteria is established, there is little you can do to kill it or slow its growth. You should go with the solution that works best for you.
