Wintering lilie outside

I’m in S.D. and disabled. Can no longer get down to the floor. Have been trying to get someone to come dig my lilies out Have a grade schooler who offered. He was to come today and the temp has dropped and winds are blowing up to 20 mph. So much for using today to get lilies out.

I have left the lilies in the ground for 3-4 years because I couldn’t dig
them out. Not worried about the day lilies but I think I need to protect my Fancy Easter Lilies this year. Have the feeling the winter is going to really be a bad one.
They are planted in a 2×2 ft square by the front steps of my front deck (or porch) and are susceptible to N, S W winds. Had thought of putting plastic or newspaper with wood mulch. But mulch and paper will end up blowing away in our high winds. Can’t use plastic because we go from freezing cold to nice temps to freezing cold again. Afraid bulbs will rot. What can I put over these bulb to give them some added protection, especially if we don’t have snow laying on the ground all winter?

Temps are supposed to drop all week and will freeze around Friday night.

You are welcome to post my question and the answer, But I need a response
in my email. I get a ton of emails and as soon as I get the things I’m working on finished, I plan on drastically cutting them down. Will start your email sometime in earl 2018.

It appears that the Easter Lily is hardy in your area, not requiring special care. If you still have a concern, then it would help to put a layer of mulch, whether it be actual mulch or straw on them.
