Will fir tree regrow in dead area?

Three firs in a row, middle one died, cut it down and remaining two have dead looking sides where they were too closely planted. Will those areas regrow?

Probably not. They usually focus most of their growth on the tip of the tree and the tips of the branches. They will have to be pruned up for looks or, unfortunately, replanted.
