Why is my apricot tree growing shoots out of the roots. I just cut 40 of them off. Am I doing something wrong or do all apricot trees

do this? The tree is 4 years old since I bought it. First year no fruit second year tons of fruit last year no fruit this year looks like we will have 5. I bought mason bees when it bloomed and a house for them.

The suckers are likely growing from the root stock and should be removed to avoid root stock take over.
Continue to cut them back as you see them grow back.

It is not unusual for a tree to produce more fruit one year, then have a year that you have less.
