Why do my Brown Turkey figs get eaten away?

I have a new fig tree (Brown Turkey). It grows lots of fruit but when they have grown large they change from green/yellow and go to brown/black. Before I can pick them they are eaten by what seems to be a disease.
What can I do to prevent this?
Thanks
Eddie
