White chalky mold at pruning sites

I Have a magnolia tree with white chalky spots about 3/8 in diameter at the pruning sites and when disturbed produces small black ants.This summer has been hot and humid.

This sounds like you may have a Scale infestation.

Treat with Neem Oil.
