Gardening Know How Questions & Answers - https://questions.gardeningknowhow.comHello,
Recently I planted some herbs in the same pot together and I wanted to see if you could offer some insight. To give you a background, I live in an apartment so my balcony (that is covered overhead) is where I grow my garden in the summer. My apartment faces north on a little lake in Indianapolis. I don’t know if that helps but I thought it might! Last year I planted 4 different types of tomatoes and they all did way better than I thought they would. I had a lot of tomatoes but they were late bloomers. This year I chose 3 tomatoes (black prince, husky cherry red and big beef) and chose the 4th pot for herbs along with another new pot for herbs too.
I planted rosemary, thyme and oregano in the larger pot and then I planted basil and lavender in a regular sized pot. I will be getting chive from my mother over the weekend to add to a pot as well. My question is will these combinations of plants in the same containers do well or will they not work? Since I planted them last night I could still manage to switch them around before they get set in their roots. I wanted to ask because I have heard mixed opinions from multiple websites. Please and thank you!
Sincerely,
Lauren

Mixed container gardening can be very difficult. You will have to ensure that you have a large enough container to support multiple crops. And, as you have mentioned, these must be compatible crops.
This website will have a chart that will give you a layout of what will compete, and what will live together: https://permaculturenews.org/2010/07/30/companion-planting-guide/ [1]
