What To Do With My Basil Plant?

I am extremely new to gardening and the information I am finding online are not helping out much. I’m sure I have made a lot of mistakes so excuse me if my plant looks like a nightmare for an expert. First, I noticed my basil plant stem is turning brown. Is it rotting? Is it some kind of disease? What can I do to save it? Second, a while ago i tried “pruning” it from the top like a lot the videos showed but I think I did it wrong. In the case of my plant could you indicate where exactly I should cut for pruning? I also think I may have been overwatering it as some leaves are drooping The conditions of my plant: I have it on the outside of my kitchen window, it gets a decent amount of sun and I have cut several drainage slits on the bottom of the bottle. I don’t water it on a specific schedule eventhough I probably should. I think I have been watering it 2 or 3 times per week?

It, actually, looks like it is doing as well as it can in such a small container. They are not small enough plants to survive in such confined spaces.

You can still transplant it, but after some time it will die in that container. Once you transplant into a larger container, and give it fresh soil, you will notice that it regains its vigor.

Pruning can happen anywhere on the plant. They respond to pruning quite well. Just prune to your desired height, and let it branch back out.
