What Is The Light Brown Sunken Spots On Some Of The Stems Of My African Violet?

These spots are only on the stems, although one spot started at the very top of a stem and migrated into 1/4 of the leaf. The pale brown spots on the stems are sunken in and feel a tiny bit soft. The one that moved up into a leaf is darker colored, shriveled and dry.Zone 3b

It may be petiole rot or crown rot. This article should help:
