What Is the Best All Round Weed Killer

Question

My garden is a mess. I am planning to pave the top by the house, but it is rampant with weeds. I need to get rid of them. I have weeded, but the growth rate is amazing and there are so many to tackle. What is the best weedkiller to use for large areas?

Firstly…I live in Alberta Canada & not knowing where you live I can only advise what we have available as an herbicide here in Canada.
I Use a product called Roundup. It is available in concentrate & ready to use. I only buy the concentrate…it works out to be way cheaper. Roundup is a systemic herbicide which means it takes up to 2 weeks to kill the weeds. You spray the weeds with the solution and the plant absorbs it. It works its way through the plants system right to the roots and kills it at the root. Roundup only kills what it touches regarding plants. It doesn’t leave deposits in the soil and in my mind is the safest herbicide to use.
If you are planning to pave another option is to use a soil sterilization product. There are a few on the market usually in a granular form. You sprinkle it on the soil and nothing grows. It comes in different strengths…good for 2 years up to 5 or 7 years. It really works. The only problem with it is rain can cause it to leach into soil that you don’t want sterilized. My mom used it years ago outside 1 edge of her garden to get rid of quack grass and thistle. The rain leached it into the garden soil and for 5 years we were short 2 potato rows of space in the garden..appx 8 feet. The rest of the garden was unharmed. As it is on a farm it wasn’t a big deal but when you have a small garden plot it could be an issue.
