Weeds – vine type

I live in North Dakota and last year my flower garden / shrubs were invaded by a very fast growing vine that wraps itself many, many times around the stems and multiplies rapidly. Unfortunately I do not have a picture but it had smaller green leaves with some sort of very small berry like pod things. It pulled out of the ground relatively easy but due to ankle surgery was unable to treat it at the end of season.
I was raking the leaves, etc out of garden today, and noticed many little sprouts with one purplish leaf and green stem. I have very nervous that it is that nasty vine thing. Do you have any idea what this could be? Thank you

Can you describe the fruit? This fits the description of many vining plants. Are the leaves fuzzy or smooth, and slick? How many leaves on each stem? One, or multiple? Can you describe the shape of the leaf?

You can get rid of many plants by pouring boiling water on the roots. If these are too close to your plants that you do not want to kill then, you can spray undiluted vinegar directly on the stalks, and roots, if you can avoid your plants that you do not want to kill.

These two methods will kill almost any plant, so have care when treating. As for identification, I will do my best to help you once I have a bit more information.
