watering potted hydrangea in winter

I have a 12″ pot outside on a covered deck with a cut back 3 year old hydrangea ( no idea what type ) I used styrofoam to protect it over the winter. Do I need to keep watering it ?

Thanks, I am NO gardener !!

This depends on your area. If you are in an area where the plant goes completely dormant, then you will only water once a month. This will be enough to just keep it alive. Overwatering will lead to rot and eventually the death of the plant. If the plant does not go dormant, than you will need to treat it like it is growing still. But this would all depend on your climate zone.
