vegetable gardening and pesticides

We have just built a raised bed that we are planning to use for a vegetable garden. We used a pile of dirt from our yard that must have had an anthill in it. So some of the ants were moved to our new bed. Not thinking we then sprayed the bed with pesticide to hopefully kill off the ants. Bad idea I know. So my question is, have we ruined our garden for planting vegetables because of the pesticide? Should we wait until next year to plant veggies or is it ok to plant this year or have we ruined the garden?

Generally, most chemicals in pesticides and weed killers will dissipate after a couple good rainfalls or waterings. Read the label of the type you used for info on how long you must wait before planting (most will have this info). If not, you can try flushing the area with water to leech out some of the residual pesticide that may be left in the soil. After at least a month or so, it should be fine to plant. If you are still unsure, I would wait for the following season.
