Turnips or Weeds?

I am very new to gardening. I have no one to really help me out here, so I’m gardening on a trial and error basis. I bought some turnip seeds last year. I want to grow my own turnips to feed to my horses as treats, but I’m not sure what I did with the seeds exactly. These plants started growing in my greenhouse after a while of not having anything growing in it, and I decided to uproot them to see what they were. They were weeds and what I should do with them. I’m not sure. They are big, green and leafy but they have white bulbish bottoms where their roots are. I have so many at the same size and they don’t look exactly like any weed I had growing in the greenhouse before. But is there an exact way I can tell before I throw them out? I did find an empty turnip packet and one of my pots did say turnips on it. Not sure if I planted them in the pot and then forgot about them, and also threw some of the seeds randomly on the ground in the greenhouse.

First of all, let me say that gardening by trial and error is pretty much how we (gardeners) all get by. It’s actually the key to success and makes gardening fun – never knowing from year to year how it’s gonna turn out keeps this hobby exciting (at least for me). Secondly, no question is ever stupid. You don’t learn if you don’t ask. That said, from your description it sounds more like a turnip than it does a weed.
