Tropical Hibiscus Buds

What would cause the buds to fall off tropical hibiscus? Once they start blooming in late July-August, there are multiple buds everywhere and quite a display, but there are even more buds which fall off before opening. I fertilize with regular Miracle Grow and then add a bit of Orchid Miracle Grow for the additional acid, per the package and water daily.

It sounds like you may have thrips. They are hard to see and attack the base of the flower bud, which causes the flower bud to fall off. This article will help:
