Trees Safe for Dogs?

I am looking to plant a tree in backyard and I want to make sure it’s safe around my dogs. Is a Dogwood tree safe? Also, I am looking at Forest Pansy redbud (Cersis canadensis). One website says it’s kid and dog safe but am wondering about the seed pods it drops in fall. . . is it safe to plant either tree?

I find differing opinions on the toxicity of dogwood trees and their parts. Some sources list the seed as slightly toxic while others list seed as non-toxic. Redbuds are all listed as non-toxic. The ASPCA has a list of “safe” plants for dogs, cats and horses.
