transplanting roses

The article on transplanting roses says to transplant it first, then trim back branches etc for the season.
Since it would be much easier and less painful to trim back the plant first, then transplant it, would doing this hurt the plant or the process?

Good point on a practical issue. I would say go ahead and prune first.
