Transplanting a Yucca Outdoors

I have been growing a Yucca Plant indoors for 11 years now. It is getting huge and starting to take over. I may need to start charging it rent! I’ve spoken to my local Homebase Garden Dept and they’ve advised me a big NO!! to putting it outside, as the frost will definitely kill it off. I thought, surely this can’t be the case?

This website says the opposite and says it’s fine and can withstand -20 C and very little water. I’m very worried that I may kill it and want to avoid that. Can I put it outside and transfer from pot to ground? If so, are there any special precautions to adhere to in winter? (i.e. snow and/or frost) I would love to keep my plant and give it more room and even the chance to grow further.

Your advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Your indoor Yucca plant would not survive temperatures below freezing. In fact it can be placed outdoors in the spring and summer but really should not be exposed to temperatures below 50 degrees.

This Yucca is a different plant then the outdoor Yucca that grows outdoors.
