tomatoes

I am growing beefsteak tomatoes or a large type in 2 large 24 inch deep terracotta pots on my screen porch. The plants have blossoms and are 6 ft high, have lots of tomatoes on them. They get at least 6 hrs of sun on the covered porch but so far I got only 2 tomatoes to turn red. They were at the bottom, one on each bush and each is next to 2-3 on the vine almost twice the size but still green with a lot of tomatoes but no hint of turning red. I live in Florida and it is over 90 now but the plants are on a screen porch. The 2 tomatoes that turned red were very tasty but not real big. The ones on the vine appear healthy and are much larger than the 2 red ones I picked. What have I not done? Thanks

When temperatures rise above 90 F and do not drop into the 70’s at night, many varieties of tomatoes will slow down and even stop the ripening process. Extra watering can help to bring down the air temp around the tomatoes, but really, what you need are some cooler nights.
