Summer pruning hardy fig

I have a Chicago hardy fig seedling I’m growing from bare wood – this is its first summer. It has taken off well and has three main branches about 18″ long (see photo). Would now (June/July) be a good time to remove the outer two branches so the middle one can develop as the main trunk? (From what I read, it seems they can be refrigerated and propagated themselves) Or should I wait until winter? My goal is to have a small potted, fruiting tree. Many thanks in advance.
