squash sprouts came up yellow

I have saved my buttercup squash seeds for two years now. This year, two of the three sprouted seeds came up yellow, stem and leaves. They look healthy other than the sickly color. Can you tell me what is happening? I need only one plant, so I do plan to remove the yellow sprouts, but this is pretty interesting! Thank you.

Yellow seedlings may be watering issues; too much or too little.
Check soil moisture and make adjustments quickly; they will likely recover if you can correct.
