Squash

I have heard from many people that I should put cardboard underneath my acorn squash, and all my other squash, in order to keep it from rotting or getting damaged by pests and such. Is this true? Right now many are on sand/dirt and others are sitting in green weeds and grass, since they have stretched into my lawn 30 feet away….. If so, I have a lot of work to do right away, since I have so many types and plenty of squash plants! Please give me an answer…..thank you!!!!

You don’t have to put cardboard down, although some people do. I think mostly it’s used to make a place for squash bugs to hide during the day, so they can be easily found and eliminated by had — or rather by foot.
