spores of shelf fungus

A very old and tall tree that fell in our backyard had shelf fungus near the roots. Our gardener cut it apart and hauled it off, but we’re concerned about replacing it. Are the spores still in the soil? Is there any way to get rid of them?

I don’t really think you need to worry much about that. Normally these fungal growths only attack/grow on trees that are stressed or dying. your soil should be fine.
