Split Tree

I have a crimson maple tree that has a 5 ft long split in the trunk about 8 ft from ground about 1/4 inch open. It shows no signs of being struck by lightning. Looked just perfect when leaves were on. Tree is about 25 ft tall.

It probably is weather related, and you do not need to try to seal it. The link below should help:
