Gardening Know How Questions & Answers - https://questions.gardeningknowhow.comThese plants are well established and have been there for 12 years. This has been a hot and dry summer in NC but not anything that these plants haven’t seen before. The leaves are brown and curling; the center wood is dead and or dying. The whole center of the plant actually on one side of the driveway (cement pad driveway FYI). We do have mulch/wood chips put down every year. The other side seems to be starting this on the outside of the plants towards the driveway. The day lilies look like they are dying as well. Is it possible they are coming to the end of their life span? Please help!!

They, generally, have what is considered a long lifespan. This can last well over 50 years.
Without seeing the damage, and just by description, I would have to guess that one of two things could be happening:
It could be that the pad is putting too much weight on the root system, or the roots are being constricted by other means.
It could be a severe fungal infection.
