Something’s eating my kale leaves till they are lacy with holes

This was one reason I gave up growing kale in my main garden, after plants were mature for about a month something—worms, slugs?—decimated the leaves till the plants were barely recognizable. This year for the first time, I began growing vegs in containers on the back patio. For a while I’ve had great success, plenty of kale and swiss chard for eating. Now, however, some of the plants are being attacked as in the past. After a parching hot dry spell we did get rain and cooler weather, which I suppose has brought out the bugs to feast. But how to get rid of them without using chemicals? Also, should I isolate the bug-ridden plants from the vicinity of those that still seem healthy? – Thanks –

Without catching them, it can be hard to say what is eating your plants. Once you treat those, and the other plants with an organic insecticide, you will not need to separate them.

There are several things that you can do to prevent this, and many of those things you likely already have in your kitchen!
