Something Is Eating the Leaves Off Rue Plant

I planted a rue herb plant to help deter Japanese beetles. Seems to be working but now something is eating its leaves, leaving only the stem. Can you give me any clues?

Chances are that it is slugs. They only come out at night and will typically strip a plant of its leaves. This article will help:
