Snake

This snake was in my yard this morning and this is the best picture I took of it. Is it dangerous?

It looks like a checkered garter snake and they are considered harmless. However, they will bite if provoked but just leave tiny bite marks. Their bite contains toxins that can cause a mild reaction. Even so, they are a popular pet snake and are easily tamed.
