Smoke Bush Transplant

I want to transplant part of a smoke bush to my home from my grandmother’s old home. She no longer lives there but the people who do have agreed to allow me to take a small piece of the smoke bush (which has been passed down through my family for three generations) and try to transplant it in my yard. I can only take a small piece. I do not know how to do this though. Do I need roots, or seeds or a stem? When should I plant and where should I plant it (full sun/shade etc.)? Thank you for your help!

You will need to take a cutting from the plant. This article will help with that: https://www.gardeningknowhow.com/ornamental/trees/tgen/how-to-root-cuttings-from-various-shrubs-bushes-and-trees.htm [1]
