Should I Trim A Newly Planted Laurel Hedge?

I\’m planting cherry laurel to make a hedge. They are 60cm to 80cm and are single stem or one small branch as seen in pics. A friend has told me to trim them back by a third to get them to thicken up whereas the nursery where I got them says give them a light trim in September. What should I do?

I would wait until early spring. This will prevent damage and allow for the best chance of recovery. These articles will help you care for you shrub:
