Scion And Rootstock From Same Tree

Can I graft a scion from my mango tree onto a rootstock grown from seeds of that same tree, or will this create a genetic “in-bred” situation I should avoid? Thanks in advance.

The purpose of grafting a scion onto the rootstalk of another tree is to improve the tree's characteristics, such as hardiness, vigor, size, etc. According to the article below, it's best not to use seedling rootstalks because they grow into large trees that take a long time to bear.

Another point to consider is whether the scion tree is a hybrid or a grafted tree? If so, seedlings will not be true to the parent.

In regard to your question, I didn't see an article that said specifically not to use a seedling tree of the same tree. (Except the one that said not to use seedling trees) Is the scion mature wood that is bearing?
