Sago Palm

I have a 10 year old sago palm, female, which flowered a year ago. Since then the ball of kernels have just sat on the crown and slowly deteriorated and many of the leaves have turned yellowish. Should I cut the remnants of the flower off and trim the leaves back? I have seen several sago palms in the Houston area pruned back to the trunk, but that seems rather drastic! Is that normal practice after flowering?

It’s usually not recommended to prune them back that severely. However, you can cut off the spent flower and any yellow fronds that may be present.
