Rubber Tree

I was given a rubber plant that only had two leaves on it. Every time a new leaf grows, one falls off. It is about three feet tall and has only one branch. What can I do to help it recover? Is it possible to cut it off and let it regenerate from the roots up? Thanks for your time.

This article will explain reasons for leaf drop: https://www.gardeningknowhow.com/houseplants/rubber-tree/rubber-tree-plant-leaves-falling-off.htm [1] You can cut the top of the plant to encourage branching. As for starting a new plant, this can be done quite easily from the cutting. Here is more information on both pruning and propagating rubber plants: https://www.gardeningknowhow.com/houseplants/rubber-tree/prune-rubber-tree.htm [2], https://www.gardeningknowhow.com/houseplants/rubber-tree/propagation-rubber-tree-plant.htm [3]
