Roots growing trees

We had to cut down a tree that was too close to the driveway and causing buckling issues to the blacktop. The tree and stump were cut down and removed professionally; however, we have around 15-25 trees growing from the ground roots. What can we do? This was a large tree and caused problems. Many of this type of tree will multiply the issue. My husband and son are trying to dig the roots out themselves but are making little progress. Is there anything we can do to so we don’t have to dug up most of our front lawn? Thank you.

You can cut the seedling off and paint the cut ends with a full strength weed killer. A tedious task but they will take up the weed killer and kill the roots.
