Removal of wisteria

I have just moved into an old house which has a very mature wisteria growing on the front. Although it looks beautiful when it’s flowering, I am worried about any potential damage that it might be causing to our property and wondered whether we should remove it. We looked around the house in the summer, and it was gorgeous when flowering. However, it’s very overgrown because it has not been looked after. It is starting to grow in through windows, gutter etc.
Would you recommend removal or just cutting right back?

Wisteria can be pruned back quite a bit (hard pruning) if it has become overgrown, and this will bring it back to a healthy size. There’s no need to remove the plant as long as you are willing to maintain it by pruning as described in these articles:
