Gardening Know How Questions & Answers - https://questions.gardeningknowhow.comThe new branches have green leaves that are completely different shape from tree’s original red leaves. Original branches drape down. New branches point straight up. We have lived here 8 years and the tree was already here. This has never happened before. Can I cut off these new branches without injuring the tree?

Yes, cut out the odd growth as it is coming from the rootstalk of the tree, not the favorable upper part of the graft. Here is more:
