Pumpkin Pollination

I am trying to find out what happens to the female pumpkin flower if it does not get pollinated. I pollinated my first and I found a second. The flower was a bud sealed and when I had attempted to pollinate it, it had these black seeds, like papaya seeds, in the closed petals. Help. What is it?

The fruit of the plant will fall off after a few days if the flower is not pollinated. I am not sure what the black things were that were inside it, but they may have been small insects that became trapped inside the blossom after it closed. Depending on how old the blossom was, they may also have been the faded stigma.
