Pruning an apricot tree

In “when to prune an apricot tree,” it states to prune in late winter or early spring as new leaves and flowers begin to open. Does that mean to remove only branches that do not bear any flowers, as one would want to retain branches with flowers? Can this be clarified, please?

Pruning is an ongoing process with Apricot Trees to help grow a sturdy, healthy and encouraged fruit production.
You are working on a overall shape and condition of the tree and these cuts may or may not effect a tree with flowering branches.
