Normally, wax myrtles are pruned after flowering. If you mind sacrificing this spring’s flowers, you can prune on Valentine’s Day in N.C. There is a good tutorial on how to prune correctly from NCSU here: https://chatham.ces.ncsu.edu/2015/02/pruning-trees-and-shrubs-2/ [1]
