Protecting Plants Against Critters

I am growing bok choy for the first time. Although all my leafy greens in the same area are doing fine, my bok choy has become very holey, as if something is eating the leaves. Could you help me with suggestions of what might be doing this, and what I could do to protect my plants pesticide-free?
