I have a plant in my garden that has a huge poison ivy bush right next to the roots how can I kill the poison ivy and not harm the plant. I thought about vinegar but am afraid to use it so close to the plant

Use a foam paintbrush to spread herbicide on the poison ivy. If the plants touch, use some twine to hold your desired plant away from the herbicide until it dries. If there is a single base to the poison ivy, you can cut the PI at ground level and apply herbicide to the stump immediately. Glyphosate, RoundUp and others, is not active in the soil so will not harm your other plants.
