Poor Growth Of Newly Planted Roses And Blueberries- Wondering About Soil

Planted in late June in new beds 2 rose bushes- thrips were diagnosed and we’ve been treating- but hardly any blooms in total. Zinnia border plants didn’t thrive and were eaten. Blueberries planted in another new bed in May- for early and midsummer berries. No berries but more importantly no real growth. Also lost basil and zinnias in this bed. Finally, my perennials in my older bed were great this summer, but annuals struggled or died- in fact my zucchini plant flowered beautifully but ‘aborted’ its only fruit early. ( Lots of issues!)

Was your soil enriched with compost when the beds were first constructed? Do you occasionally fertilize per the specifics of the plants? Since you're having widespread problems, I suggest getting a soil sample and finding out what nutrients the soil lacks as well as the soil pH. Blueberries need very acidic soil to thrive, for example.
